Who should take this test?

If you have had symptoms of Covid-19 at least 14 days or more and want to confirm the presence of antibodies.

This test detects the presence of IgG and IgM antibodies to SARS-CoV-2.

The host immune system reacts to the infection by SARS-CoV-2 by producing antibodies from a few days to 2 weeks and beyond.

Specific IgG antibodies are produced in the later stages of infection to SARS-CoV-2, and are detectable after RNA is no longer detectable.

The persistence of IgG + IgM antibodies allows identification of people who have been infected by SARS-CoV-2. The length of time that these antibodies remain detectable differs from person to person.

ZoomDoc can provide this test to all patients aged 16 years and above.

When should this test be undertaken?

We recommend that you undertake this test from 15 days after the onset of symptoms or if you believe that you have recently been exposed to the virus.

  • What is the IgG/IgM Roche Antibody Test?

The test involves taking a small finger prick blood test

Testing should be undertaken 14 days or more following exposure or onset of symptoms.  The incubation period of COVID-19 ranges from between 1 to 14 days, with the majority of cases manifesting with symptoms at 3 – 5 days.

The host immune system reacts to the infection by SARS-CoV-2 by producing antibodies from a few days to 2 weeks and beyond.

IgM antibodies are usually the first antibody produced by the immune system when a virus attacks. A positive IgM test indicates that you may have been infected and that your immune system has started responding to the virus.  When IgM is detected you may still be infected, or you may have recently recovered from a COVID-19 infection.

Specific IgG antibodies are produced in the later stages of infection to SARS-CoV-2, and are detectable after RNA is no longer detectable.

The persistence of IgG antibodies allows identification of people who have been infected by SARS-CoV-2.

There are studies that indicate in some individuals, IgG antibodies disappear after several months and become no longer detectable at repeated tests.

We provide an instruction leaflet and video that details how you should take the test.

  • When will I receive my results?

We aim to have your results to you via email within 24-48 hours of the lab receiving your test, tests couriered to the lab will usually be processed quicker.

  • How Accurate are the tests

The Roche assay used at TDL show a minimum specificity of 100% and a sensitivity of 97.4%, with no cross-reactivity with other viruses.

This test is both CE marked and MHRA ( medicines healthcare regulation authority ) approved.

The test is analysed by The Doctors Laboratory, who provide quality UK accredited pathology services worldwide. The Doctors Laboratory (TDL) is a medically-led laboratory, established in 1987. It is the largest independent provider of clinical laboratory diagnostic services in the UK.

  • Who should test?

If you suspect that you have been exposed to the coronavirus due to you having recently travelled to a high-risk country,  you think you may have come into contact with someone who has Covid-19 or you have symptoms then you can do the swab test between 1-5 days post exposure.

However, symptoms may not appear for up to two weeks after you have become infected with the virus. This means that it is possible to spread the virus without having any symptoms.
