About this medical letter

Pregnancy fit-to-fly certificate
If you’re pregnant and planning to travel by air or sea, you may require a fit-to-fly certificate confirming that both you and your baby are safe to travel.
Our doctors can provide you with a fit to fly medical certificate, within a few hours, that will confirm your due date, and that you are not at risk of complications. No appointment is needed – simply apply online.
What will I receive?
You will receive a verifiable digital PDF letter signed by a medical professional and sent directly to your mobile, containing the following details:
- Your name, date of birth and passport number.
- Confirmation of a singleton or multiple pregnancy.
- Your gestation at the time of departure and return, and estimated delivery date.
- Confirmation that your pregnancy is progressing normally, that you are in good health and fit to fly.
- Signature and authorisation by one of our GMC-registered UK doctors.
- Contact details of ZoomDoc Health with a QR code enabling a verification check.
Important – flying while pregnant
To allow us to assess your condition and issue a medical certificate, we will require the following information:
- Less than 36 weeks’ gestation (singleton pregnancy)
- Less than 32 weeks’ gestation (multiple pregnancy)
However, flying while pregnant with any known health issues or complications could put both you and your pregnancy at risk. If you have previously been advised not to fly for any reason, or if your pregnancy is deemed more complicated and high risk, we will be unable to provide you with a letter.
Our priority is always to keep you and your baby safe. Therefore, our doctors will advise against travel if you have any of the following:
Your BMI is 30 or above at the start of your pregnancy – because there is increased risk of deep vein thrombosis (DVT or blood clots) while flying.
You are experiencing a more complicated pregnancy with underlying health conditions or risk factors
Gestational Diabetes
Blood clots or deep vein thrombosis (DVT)
High blood pressure
Miscarriage after 18 weeks’ gestation,
Heart or lung condition
Severe anaemia
Sickle cell disease
Epilepsy
Pre-eclampsia
Low-lying placenta
Low Papp-A
Please note:ZoomDoc Health can complete additional airline or cruise forms, in addition to this fit-to-fly certificate for a £25 fee.

What will I need to supply?
To allow us to assess your condition and issue a medical certificate, we will require the following information:
- A photo of your passport
- Your gestation at the time of both departure and return
- Your estimated delivery date
- A 30-second to 1-minute video confirming how your pregnancy is progressing
- Any health or pregnancy-related issues
- A copy of your recent maternity notes and ultrasound scan report
- Details of your regular NHS GP (if you have one)
I fly tomorrow and I’m 32 weeks pregnant – can I still get a certificate today?
Yes. As long as you upload your evidence before 9pm GMT, our doctors will review and issue your certificate the same day – typically within one to two hours. You’ll receive a signed PDF by email and SMS, with a QR code your airline can verify on the spot.
To get started, you’ll need a short video confirming how your pregnancy is progressing, a copy of your recent maternity notes, your passport photo, and your estimated due date. If you have everything ready, the process is straightforward and fast.
We issue certificates 7 days a week, including weekends and bank holidays.
My airline has asked for a pregnancy fit-to-fly certificate – will a ZoomDoc letter be accepted?
Yes. ZoomDoc certificates are accepted by all major airlines operating out of the UK, including British Airways, easyJet, Ryanair, Emirates, Virgin Atlantic, Jet2, TUI, and many more. Every certificate is signed by a GMC-registered UK doctor and includes a QR verification code, which allows airline staff to confirm its validity instantly.
If your airline has a specific form they need completing in addition to a standard certificate, our doctors can complete that too for an additional £25.
If you’re unsure whether your specific airline will accept our certificate, get in touch and we’ll confirm before you purchase.
I’m pregnant with twins and I’m 30 weeks – is it too late to get a fit-to-fly certificate?
For multiple pregnancies (twins or more), most airlines require a fit-to-fly certificate from 28 weeks, and our doctors can assess and issue certificates up to 32 weeks gestation. If you are currently under 32 weeks with a multiple pregnancy and have no known complications, you can apply now.
For singleton pregnancies, the upper limit is 36 weeks.
It’s worth checking your specific airline’s policy too – some carriers set their own thresholds that are stricter than the general guidelines. If you’re close to the limit, we’d recommend applying as soon as possible so there’s time to address any follow-up questions from our doctors.
My midwife says I’m fine to fly, but the airline is insisting on a letter from a doctor – what do I do?
This is a very common situation. Most airlines specifically require a certificate signed by a medical doctor (not a midwife), confirming your gestation, due date, and that your pregnancy is progressing without complications. A verbal confirmation from your midwife, while reassuring, won’t satisfy the airline’s check-in process.
ZoomDoc’s certificates are signed by GMC-registered UK doctors and contain all the information airlines require: your gestation at departure and return, your estimated delivery date, confirmation of a singleton or multiple pregnancy, and a statement of fitness to fly.
If you’ve already discussed your situation with your midwife, you can reference those notes when uploading your evidence – it actually helps speed up our doctor’s review.
My GP can’t see me for two weeks and I fly next week – what are my options?
This is exactly the situation ZoomDoc exists for. You don’t need a GP appointment to get a pregnancy fit-to-fly certificate from us – the entire process is online. You’ll fill in a short health questionnaire, upload your maternity notes and a short video, and our doctors will review and issue your certificate the same day, usually within one to two hours.
Our service is available 7 days a week between 9am and 9pm GMT, so even if you’re applying over a weekend or on a bank holiday, you won’t be left waiting.
I’m planning a babymoon at 28 weeks – do I need a fit-to-fly certificate?
Most airlines will require a certificate once you reach 28 weeks, so if you’re travelling at or beyond that point, yes – you’ll need one. Even for airlines that don’t make it mandatory until later, having a certificate gives you peace of mind and avoids any issues at check-in.
A babymoon is a significant trip and often not cheap. Getting a certificate in advance means one less thing to worry about on the day, and it can also be useful documentation if you need to make a travel insurance claim for any reason.
You can apply up to a few days before travel and receive your certificate within hours. It’s valid for the dates you specify – including both your departure and return gestation.
I’m flying long-haul at 29 weeks pregnant – does that change what I need?
The certificate requirement is the same regardless of flight duration – what changes is the airline’s own policy. Some long-haul carriers, particularly on routes over 4 hours, require a certificate from an earlier gestational age than short-haul airlines, and a small number require their own specific form to be completed rather than a standard letter.
If your airline requires their own form, our doctors can complete it alongside your certificate for an additional £25. We’d recommend checking your airline’s specific requirements and getting in touch if you’re unsure – we can confirm what you need before you purchase.
For long-haul travel during pregnancy, it’s also worth speaking with your midwife or obstetrician about DVT risk and in-flight comfort – our certificate covers the medical clearance side, but they can advise on compression stockings and hydration.
I’m organising this for my partner – can I purchase and apply on her behalf?
Yes, many of our customers purchase on behalf of a partner or family member. You can complete the purchase and submit the evidence on her behalf – just make sure the details you provide (passport, maternity notes, estimated due date, gestational age) are hers, not yours.
The certificate will be issued in her name and delivered to the email address provided at checkout. If she needs it sent directly to her as well, just include her email address and we’ll copy her in.
