About this certificate
Emotional Support Animal – Medical Certificate & Registration
If either you or your child has a disability, that is supported by an emotional support or assistance animal, you may be asked to provide medical evidence confirming this need. This emotional support animal ย [ESA] medical certificate and registration may be requested by landlords, housing associations or recreational facilities as part of access.
Our doctors can provide a same-day medical certificate that confirms the presence of a disability, explains how it affects day-to-day life, and outlines how your emotional support or assistance animal supports your health, wellbeing, or independence. The process is straightforward: you complete a secure online assessment, a doctor reviews your information, and – where appropriate – you receive your medical certificate within 1-2 hours.
This service is designed to provide clear, professional medical documentation to help support access and reasonable accommodations when needed.

Emotional support animals and your rights
Living with a hidden disability can be challenging, and we understand how important the right support can be. As doctors, we recognise that for many individuals, regular contact with a pet animal, an emotional support animal, or an assistance animal can play a valuable role in supporting emotional wellbeing, daily functioning, and overall quality of life. In the UK, emotional support animals, and an individuals requirement to have one is protected under the Equality Act 2010.
At ZoomDoc, every application is reviewed carefully and individually by our doctors. We assess whether there is sufficient medical evidence of a qualifying disability and whether an emotional support animal or assistance animal is appropriate to support your health needs. If the medical criteria are not met, or if the information provided does not support the need for an ESA or assistance dog, we will be unable to issue a letter. In these cases, your application will be cancelled and a full refund will be provided, with no further action required from you.
Our strict clinical assessment, provision of a medical certificate and QR coded registration verification, is why ZoomDoc Health are trusted internationally to confirm that an emotional support animal is medically required and necessary for an individual.
Emotional Support Animals vs Assistance Animals
Emotional support animals (ESAs) provide comfort, reassurance, and emotional stability through their presence. They do not require formal training to perform specific tasks, and their recognition and acceptance can vary depending on local laws and individual organisations.
Assistance dogs, on the other hand, are trained to perform specific tasks or functions that directly support a personโs disability, such as guiding, alerting, or assisting with mobility or medical needs. Because of this specialised training, assistance dogs are often afforded greater legal protection and wider access rights, although requirements can still vary by location and setting.
Our medical certificates are intended to provide clear, professional documentation where appropriate, helping organisations understand the role your emotional support animal or assistance animal plays in supporting your health and wellbeing.

What conditions can an emotional support animal or assistance animal support?
Emotional support animals and assistance dogs may support individuals living with a wide range of physical or mental health conditions. This can include, but is not limited to, anxiety disorders, depression, post-traumatic stress, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), learning disabilities, and other hidden or long-term conditions. Each case is assessed individually based on medical evidence and personal circumstances.
Can I apply if I have anxiety?
Yes. Many people with clinically recognised anxiety find that an emotional support animal or assistance animal provides comfort, emotional regulation, and reassurance, particularly during periods of heightened stress. Our doctors will assess whether there is sufficient medical evidence of anxiety and whether an ESA or assistance animal is appropriate for your situation.
Can an emotional support animal help with autism or ASD?
For some individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), emotional support animals or assistance dogs can help with emotional regulation, routine, sensory comfort, and feelings of safety. Our doctors carefully review each application to understand how the condition affects daily life and how an animal may provide meaningful support.
Does my child need a diagnosis to apply?
In most cases, medical evidence confirming a diagnosed condition, referral for assessment or ongoing treatment is required. This helps our doctors determine whether a medical letter is appropriate. If there is insufficient evidence, we will be unable to issue a letter, and a full refund will be provided.
