Important – clinical indications for exemption certificate

Specific clinical indications for which our doctors can provide this certificate include:

  • Severe allergic reactions to other vaccines
  • History of anaphylaxis to a vaccine
  • Known allergy to vaccine components
  • Egg protein allergy
  • Severe reaction to a previous yellow fever vaccine
  • Current moderate or severe illness
  • Previously had the Yellow Fever Vaccine – a booster is no longer recommended in most individuals
  • 60 years of age and older (Yellow Fever vaccine should not be given to those aged 60 and older when visiting areas where the vaccine is generally not recommended by WHO (i.e. areas with low potential for YF virus exposure.)
  • Babies under 6 months
  • Babies under 9 months – if transmission risk is low at destination
  • People with a weakened immune system, such as those with leukaemia, lymphoma or symptomatic HIV infection, and asymptomatic HIV infection when accompanied by evidence of impaired immune function.
  • Those who are immunosuppressed as a result of treatment, including high dose systemic steroids, immunosuppressive biological therapy, radiotherapy or cytotoxic drugs.
  • A thymus gland disorder or who’ve had their thymus gland removed. Including, incidental thymectomy during cardiac surgery.
  • Close relative who has had a severe reaction to this vaccine causing damage to the brain or other organs.

 

Please note: Without verifiable proof of a clinical indication for a yellow fever vaccine exemption, our doctors will be unable to provide this certificate.
Our vaccine medical exemption certificate expires 12 months after issue.
